Cat is company and that’s lovely especially when you’re single. It’s not that she gives me love, but that I can give her love. That brings a sense of purpose. Me looking after her and making sure she’s OK takes the focus off me, which is really good.
I’ve learned that you have to go with their natural ways of being. You can’t really train them; they do whatever they want. Cat demands one-to-one attention. She’s caused me to focus differently. If I sit on the bathroom floor in the morning, and she’s in my lap, then I’ll just sit there and close my eyes sometimes for up to 30 minutes. She’s encouraging me to slow down more. Animals live in the moment and she’s helping me to just be there in the moment: whether that’s sitting still or having a cuddle.
It’s so nice to have another heartbeat in the house and another pair of eyes.
